Diary of a Fat Man: if at first you don’t succeed...

Brown diary and pen

Dear Diary,

As I write this, it’s Sunday, February 5 2012.  As I was brushing my teeth this morning, I saw my scales reflected in the bathroom mirror & felt a twinge of guilt—I haven’t weighed myself in months.

I took the plunge & stepped on.  244 1/2 lbs.  Aw c’mon!  I weighed myself a couple more times to be sure, disgusted with myself.  I sure was relieved it was the weekend & I wasn’t going into the office today, I was suddenly feeling very round & conspicuous.

I decided I’m going to start a weekly weigh-in; I’m going to update the table below every Friday until June, for better or worse.  Wish me luck!  (I’ll need it—I’m not exactly starting out in the right direction.)

Okay, I didn’t meet my 20 lb. goal--but I did stick with it, and I sure was surprised when I stepped on those scales this morning & saw that 2 lb loss.  (I think having a bad cold this week helped, but I’ll take it!)    THIS ISN’T OVER.diary

  1. I tend to go by how tight my keks are, Doug, but this is far more hard-faced and unforgiving.

So, it's no more eating between snacks and that High Intensity malarkey?

Dunno if you get BBC America or access to Aunty Beeb's admirable science series 'Horizon' but the science behind HIT is pretty surprising...

  2. Andrew you sure have a way with words :) Thanks man & yes I DO have access to BBC America, I will have to check that out!

I know what I gotta do, I just find it easier not to do it :)

  5. Diana said... What a brave soul. I don't even know how much I weigh! I am trying to get a Weight Watchers group started at work before spring/summer/screaming season! Good Luck!

  6. Thanks Diana! (Love the Liberry Lady handle by the way, haha) Well I don't know if it's brave or demented, but yes I used to belong to a weight group at work & it definitely helps when you're obligated to report in on a weekly basis, that was my idea here. :)

  7. Cool chart! Good man Doug but is this the end of the recipes?

  8. Thanks Sammy! Just a little experiment in public humiliation... ;)

As for the so-called recipes, they're still coming--a friend at work recently gave me one I'm curious to try, I'll be posting it here soon. (It's low calorie but she insists it's good, I'll be the judge of that!)

  9. Doug, after spending a good deal of time in Japan, we have come to eat much more fish and vegetables than before, AND just eat less than before. The food still tastes great!

  10. And you are a brave man to publish the table!

  11. Thanks Iikka--well, I wish that type of cuisine were more readily available in Pittsburgh but I'm trying... we'll see :)
