I'm sorry for going on about it for the umpteenth time, I know what a tired subject it is. But I went over 3 months this summer with little symptoms before that much needed dental appointment. This has been an ongoing thing for close to 2 years now.
I just want it to lessen up to the point of being manageable again--where I can go back outside and spend time with friends & family again.
Alright, enough. I've got better things to share.
This morning my brother Steve texted me and told me my oldest nephew (his son Stevie) is getting married to his long-time girlfriend Jacie. I haven't seen Stevie since a family dinner we had a couple years ago, but I've always felt a closeness to him. He's a big bear, but a gentle one too and has never hesitated giving me a hug when we meet. What really surprised me though is his age, he turned 40 in September. Unreal.
Anyway, aren't these terrific photos? Someone in the restaurant overheard Steve proposing and took these pictures. I sure am happy for these two!
And Steve & Ann (my brother and his wife of 75 years--well, it seems that long) congratulations to you too, I love you guys. Yes Ann, you too! 😉
Finally, I wanted to share this "little surprise" I got in the mail yesterday--a belated birthday present, a big box of candy from my sister Shawn. When I texted Shawn to thank her, she said "Doug I swear I had every intention of doing this before your friend Mike sent you that box of 5th Avenue candy bars and beat me to the punch! That's the one candy bar I was looking for before I changed my mind and sent this to you!"
I told Shawn thank you and of course I believed her, and no one can have too much candy. But I have a feeling my weekly weight chart is going to be headed in the opposite direction this month.

I wouldn't worry. I see a Zero bar and that means zero calories, right? What a great gift, your sister knows you well.
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely stunned by my age. And I am even more stunned by the ages of my children. It just doesn't seem possible.
Congratulations to your nephew!! How wonderful that someone captured the photos for them. What a great moment! I wish them much happiness.
Oh Dug, I am so sorry you are dealing with long covid. I hope this bout ends soon.
Thanks very much for everything, Miss Merry. I hope your son-in-law is still doing well.
DeleteMy youngest child will turn 36. Mt oldest just turned 44. Crazy how fast that happens.
ReplyDeletewhat a time you are having. I am sorry.
Debby that's wonderful about your own kids but yes it is crazy how old these kids are getting. Thanks for always being here.
DeleteKit Kat and Reese's, yum! I would take those off your hands. What is a Zero bar? Darned kids get older so fast. I still think of mine as in their 20s but the older is pushing 40. :) I hate that you've had to deal with this; you had vowed to be more social and were doing so great at that. You'll get back to it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret, ugh I'm sorry for my moaning. Zero was a favorite in my teens, didn't even know they still made them. White chocolate with a nutty nougat inside. Can't believe my sister remembered 🙂 Also can’t believe these kids are approach8ng 40, weren't we just 40?
DeleteIt's not moaning, it's venting and is VERY HEALTHY!
DeleteThank you Margaret, you're a good friend :^)
DeleteDug, I agree with Margaret... venting is healthy. And sharing (good and bad) is therapeutic (IMO anyway). And I also think it's great that both your friend and your sister sent you goodies! Getting packages is always fun. BTW, DH really likes Zeros too... and occasionally puts one in our shopping bag. And congrats to your nephew getting married! (Recouping from my eye surgery Friday... will post more in a few days)
DeleteThanks Rian, I'm always happy to hear from you but I wasn't sure I would given your eye surgery. I very much hope you're on the mend and we get an update when you're able.
DeleteI always look forward to your posts and would be sad if you didn't have an update on your long covid, even if it isn't the best news. And I think you look pretty good, dear friend. Eat those candies slowly and carefully, though. Love your posts.
ReplyDeleteDJan, you just made my Sunday--thank you so much, dear friend!
DeleteDoug, Don’t worry about posting the status of your long covid; unfortunately it is a part of your life right now - a status report. All your readers and friends understand and are hoping for improvement soon. Hang in there, there have to be better days ahead!
ReplyDeleteMike TX
Thank you Mike, much appreciated. You're a good guy. 🙂
DeleteYou are the good guy; that is why you have so many loyal readers. Keep on posting!
DeleteI don’t have any kids, but my nephew is 60 and my niece 56.
ReplyDeleteI’d be happy with Reece’s and KitKat. The others I don’t know.
A proper proposal by your nephew, unlike mine.
I was with my friend, well, friend with benefits, just after (you don’t want to know that) and we said: wouldn’t it be a joke for our friends if we said we were getting married. Our friends didn’t seem to get the joke and things got out of hand. The ball just kept on rolling, as it were.
The marriage lasted 18 months.
Peter, thanks very much for sharing (and the smile I'm now wearing). Yes I DO want to know "just after" but I get it, haha--and wow, it lasted 18 months. Incredible! Well, what you have now (with the Asst Musicologist) seems pretty ideal to me. :^)
DeleteI was chatting to my ex about 15 years ago and she said, “You know, if we’d done what you and Norma are doing, we’d probably still be married”.
DeleteShe’s probably right.
Damned long Covid! I do hope you get some relief soon.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your nephew and his fiancee. Wishing many happy years together.
I'm not a huge fan of chocolate bars so those would be safe with me. I think it's because I used to steal the Halloween candy when I was a kid. :p
Thanks very much Maebeme, I appreciate what you said here. And I wish I could say the same about those candy bars, I had to bury them in the back of my freezer! 😋
DeleteDoug, I so hope you are feeling better soon.❤️
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your nephew and his future bride!
That was so sweet of Shawn to send you the candy. You must have enough candy to last you quite awhile!
One of our nephews is turning 30 this year. Wasn’t I just changing his diaper a few years ago?? Now he has two kids and is getting married next August. Time does fly by.
Take care Doug.❤️❤️
Robin
Thanks very much Robin--and yes my freezer has about 3 pounds of candy, so if you ever drop by... :^) That's funny about changing your 30 year old nephew's diaper just a few years ago. I totally get it and this is talked about in my next blog I'm posting tomorrow. Thanks again my friend :^)
