From my old comic book and sci-fi days… the unearthed videos of ApacheDug

While I’m waiting for this brain fog & long covid orofacial stuff to go away, I thought I’d share something silly I found (and long forgotten) on the internet Sunday.

Several years after my mom passed and before I retired in 2015, I belonged to an online club called Blammo.

Blammo was a place where we got into some pretty heavy discussions on everything from finances to music—but the focus was on comic books, movies, Doctor Who, classic and contemporary science fiction, Star Trek.

It was mostly guys and we teased each other relentlessly.  Some became like brothers.

I was going to do a series of videos on there after the first one got so much feedback, but I worried the guys would see me as a goof and nothing more.

There’s only 4, and they’re only 1-3 minutes long, but if you’re curious to see me jibber-jabber in person so to speak, lisp & all, here ya go.

1.  I made this first one to celebrate my 9000th post… MY 9000TH POST

2.  That first video got such a positive response….

3.  Third time’s the charm?  (I was on something in this one)

4.  Capped and caffeinated (this is still my favorite ball cap)

  1. You were so young. I like your profile with the long, pointy nose. Yes, I notice people's noses!

    1. Haha--thanks Gigi, well I was around 48 here so I wasn't that young! As for my nose, my grandpap used to call me Roman Nose :^)

  2. Wow. I never knew that you were one of the original "YouTubers"! How did you feel the first times you heard and saw yourself on these videos? Most of us (me included) don't think we look and sound like we actually DO :) Speaking of YouTubers, at my age (70) I still have a hard time understanding how/why so many people, even normal family people, are doing these videos basically about their everyday lives--AND PEOPLE WATCH THEM!!!! Crazy. I'm sure that says something about our culture these days but I'm not sure what.

    1. Don I made those in 2009-2010, I don't think I was one of the original YouTubers but I was probably close! To be honest, seeing myself in those didn't bother me but you are right, always hated hearing my voice on tape. I know that's common I wonder why? Anyway, I just made these for laughs as I had been a member of this club for several years and people only knew me by name only. I know they were pretty goofy!

  4. Dug, comic books have come a long way. And I enjoyed watching your 'younger days' videos... and although I'm neither a Star Trek nor a Star Wars fan (but do like the visual effects in both), I am fond of any science related shows. And I'm going to mention one we've been binge-watching on Netflix recently "Resident Alien". I really like it. The guy playing the Alien is so good... his expressions and actions are so funny... and he comes up with some pretty good thoughts about 'humans'. It is weird and may take a few watches to get into it, but I find it surprisingly entertaining. Oh... and I hope you're getting some relief with those antibiotics. Keeping my fingers crossed!

    1. Thanks Rian, you're very kind. I've been getting a lessening of pain at night, so I'm feeling hopeful. Hey, I watched the first 2 seasons of Resident Alien, I love that show. When I saw it, it was on peacock. I'm glad to know someone else who likes the show!

  5. Love the videos! It’s nice to look back at ourselves. WHY did she give you a cane, lol. 😊 It looks more like a walking stick. Joyce

    1. Ha thank you Joyce and you're right it was a walking stick. Well, I've always had a little trouble with my left leg and that's why she gave it to me to be honest. But I preferred it as a wall decoration I have no idea where it is now though. 😄

  6. It’s one thing to look at old photos, but I’m glad there are no old (or not so old) videos of me. I would destroy them if there were.
I think Venn diagrams of your movies, TV shows, books and mine wouldn’t intersect. However, we know there is some overlap in music.

    1. Peter I agree and you're maybe right about music. This past weekend I binge watched several Beatles album reviews on Pop Goes The 60s, headed by one man on Youtube. I really think you'd like him, please check him out. 🙂

    2. I'm already a regular watcher of Pop Goes the 60s.

  7. After watching I remember the first one but not the others. I don't think anyone you mentioned has been active for a decade expect for VF who hasn't changed one bit.

  8. Your voice is not at all like I imagined, it's actually a very nice voice. I imagined it softer and a little higher pitched, but it's better, easy to listen to.

  9. You really had fun making these videos. The content is humorous and relatable. I found the tropical punch, haircut no-show, and coke drinking buzz... humorous and quirky. Also a nice touch to end wishing everyone well.

  10. Hi Doug, I loved these videos! Nice to finally hear your voice. I do detect a bit of accent. The last video was hilarious! You seem pretty comfortable talking to the camera. I love hearing about peoples day to day life.
    Take care!❤️❤️
