Coming soon, to a government office near you

Miss Thornberry, have a seat.  Alright, according to our records you are 32 years and 1 month old as of today.

Your medical records indicate you have never given birth or even attempted to have a baby.

I’m sure you’re aware that all women are required to have been pregnant at least once by age 32.  Can you provide any proof our information about you is incorrect?

We have a physician on site who can perform an examination right now in the adjoining room, if you deny these findings.

That won’t be necessary.  I’ve never had a child or been pregnant.

But in my defense, I have a defective heart valve that more than doubles the risk of mortality for someone like myself carrying a baby to term.  My personal physician will attest to this.

Miss Thornberry, we--

It’s not Miss Thornberry.  It’s Dr. Thornberry.  I too am a medical physician.

Fine then.  Doctor Thornberry, we’re fully aware of your defective heart valve.  But your mortality isn’t what is at stake here.  Your future baby’s mortality is.

This is preposterous.  Not that it should matter, but I am an integral part of a government think tank devoted to the research and eradication of women’s cancers.  Even if I met someone suitable, and was healthy enough to become pregnant, a baby couldn’t possibly fit into the equation.

Dr. Thornberry, surely you’re aware of President Mastriano’s “NO EXCEPTION” Federal abortion ban of 2027, even in cases of rape & incest.  This law mandating all women become impregnated by 32 also comes with no exceptions.  Frankly I don’t care if you’re the blessed Melania Superior.  You ARE going to become pregnant.

And YOU can talk to my attorney.  What the—I’m unable to lift my arms off this chair—I can’t move my feet!

Your chair and the floor below it are wired with sensors and magnetic alloys that can detect when a woman is ovulating.  I suggest you stop trying to free yourself, a woman broke her wrist there recently.

I demand you let me go!

Here’s what’s going to happen.  You’ll be taken to a private room on this floor where your legs will be put into stirrups.  From there, you’ll be given two options:  insemination via a sterile medical apparatus resembling a turkey baster, containing a purely randomized sperm sample from one of thousands of male donors.  Doctors, serial killers, pacifists, hunchbacks—it could be any one of them, as this is America, equal rights for all.

I refuse!

Then your other option is to select one of our on-site male volunteers who can inseminate you first-hand, as God intended.  Your choices here are limited, but you’ll be allowed to choose from a line-up of men in another room.

Either way, it’s your choice.

(Psst—I’m not trying to be funny here.  When we FORCE pregnancies on women it’s only a matter of time before we begin using them for breeding—like cattle.  And we WILL get there, as long as we allow fascists—I mean, Conservatives—to remain in control.)

  1. This is scary but sadly I think that you are right. No one should be able to tell me what I should and should not do with MY body!!! It is terrifying that we are headed backwards!! Hopefully...this motivates EVERYONE to the polls!!!

    1. Thanks for commenting Annsterw, I agree 100% and yes we need to vote like never before!

  2. Surely that would never happen but then I thought the overthrow of Roe V Wade would never happen so who is to say that day you describe can't happen? We totally outnumber them but we have to get to the polls to stop it. Meager voter turnout could make your scenario a reality. Please vote folks. Interesting we are even talking about this in an already overpopulated world.

  4. Wow Doug, that is quite a scenario! I seem to remember an episode of “Sliders” that was similar to this. Everything Patti said is spot on. Our Prime Minister has promised to protect abortion laws here but who knows what can happen.
    Take care Doug.❤️

    2. Hi Robin, thanks for commenting--hey I remember that show (different Earths) but only saw a couple episodes! Well, I think you're lucky to live in an obviously more progressive country where women have more rights than here--I hope it stays that way, but I guess (after what happened here) you never know! Hang in there, my friend and thanks again. :^)

  5. Dug, I laughed, but it was a nervous laugh... because previous scary scenarios have happened - however much I thought they wouldn't. Your post may be overkill, but I get the gist. I tend to think of myself as both Pro-life and Pro-choice - meaning I don't believe I could have ever had an abortion, but would never tell another woman what she should do. Circumstances always play into it (at least IMO).

    1. Thank you Rian, I appreciate you sharing! I know this seems overkill now, but they DID just remove a Constitutional right held for 50 years by half of Americans. I think anything is possible at this point.

  7. I would have thought this was far-fetched... until recently. Now it would be plausible that every woman be expected to produce offspring. And then deal with the ramifications mostly alone.

    1. Thanks Margaret, the more it sinks in what happened with Roe vs Wade, the more I see something like this as a very real possibility. I am losing faith big time in this country.

  8. I too am wondering what became of my glorious country. We are headed down a very dark path. I saw some woman running for Congress who said that she is trying to bring the Handmaid's Tale to life, and worse!!!

  10. Wow, good and too close to home. This WILL happen if the QOP take control. What about the women who have to have an abortion due to a non-viable pregnancy? So, the woman dies and the baby? What about the men who impregnate the women and leave? Maybe the “slut” should just quit having sex with “guys like that” (I am seeing this response on Twitter). Pro-birthers are joke and sick in the head. -Danielle

    1. Thank you Danielle and GOOD questions. And how awful and cruel on Twitter, I do think it's time we hold the man accountable the DAY the woman learns she's pregnant. Then we'll see how long this lasts!

  11. I would hope this scenario would never happen, but it seems the slope to taking away the rights of those who are not heterosexual white men is very slippery these days. How far will they go...and how soon? As Patti said, voting is key.
While abortion is not part of the legal framework in Canada - it is a medical issue, there are concerns here too, especially about access. Those who live outside larger cities are often unable to see a referring physician. Even in the cities, at least here in my province, many doctors are unwilling to assist unless it is a medical emergency.
Danielle is correct, Twitter is a cesspool. Lots of "she gets what she deserves" while failing to recognize, no woman has ever been able to get pregnant without the contribution of a man. What does he deserve?

    1. Wow--thank you for sharing Maebeme, I wasn't aware Canada had their own issues with this. As for the scenario I painted above, someone is going to wind up justifying it--possibly in our lifetime. In the meantime, men need to be held VERY accountable, starting right now.

  12. Doug, that's a scary story that hopefully will never happen. However, with the direction our country has been going a lot of things have happened I would never expect in this day and age. I keep hearing that Justice Clarence Thomas wants to remove the right to contraception and gay marriage. Life would be close enough to your story if birth control was illegal. I'm convinced some of these people want to keep women in the kitchen and barefoot and pregnant.

I have to ask, have you been watching these hearings on September 6th? Wow!

    1. Bonnie, thanks for commenting--I know you were taking a break from blogs for awhile, so it's appreciated. And I think Clarence Thomas has a lot of nerve, as he's in an interracial marriage with someone many consider a traitor! Anyway "barefoot and pregnant" made me smile but my God it's the truth--and yep I haven't missed a minute of those hearings. We need to see real justice.

  13. This is horrifying and I hope it NEVER happens. Because if it does they will soon move on to girl children of any age who are able to bear children, there will be mothers as young as eleven or twelve! Who may then be grandmothers in their twenties. Please, please, let this never happen.

  14. I remember many years ago, a hot day, taking a long walk to a doctors office, with my four kids and two that I was babysitting. He said what can I do for you? I said I'd like to get my tubes tied off. He looked at sweaty me, and six sweaty kids and said "How about Friday?" I'm so glad I live in Australia.

  15. Not trying to rile you up Doug but it seems like all these arguments always focus on the 7% of people who do so for medical reasons of themselves and/or the fetus and also rape. Largely ignored is the vast majority, 93% who have their fetus killed simply because it isn't convenient. To me that is the huge elephant in the room that we should be focusing our attention on and trying to come up with solutions. I don't have any solution other than to try and find middle ground where most of the people can be happy.

    1. We had a solution--50 years ago. A conservative court stripped it from half the American population. There's lots of unwanted children in this country who could use foster parents and Conservatives need to step up.

  16. Wow! Guess it could happen; creepy. I hope area judges put a stop to state bans. It might take another 50 years to right this wrong. If laws requiring the fathers to financial contribute to their non-aborted kids, there'd be less of a problem. It's sad. It IS interesting how some national companies are going to pay for their employees
expenses if they have to go out of state to have abortions. Love how prosecutors have signed that they won't prosecute those involved in banned states. Some people still have some sanity. Linda in Kansas

  17. How about all males over the age of 13 get a mandatory vasectomy with a reversal of surgery when desiring to conceive with a willing partner under medical supervision. THAT way all pregnancies would be planned! Perfect solution for Ed.

  18. Thank you for this post, Doug. I'm furious with the Supreme Court and especially Clarence Thomas and those other hires by Trump. If they want to force women, especially poor women to have babies they can't afford, they need to pay them a lot of money to raise those children and provide universal health care for them as well. It's so darn ridiculous!

    1. Thanks Kay, let's just hope this gets more Democrats to the polls this November--most Republican politicians don't really give a damn about babies, it's all about control and treating women as second class citizens.
