SWM, 64 ISO funny, sweet, patient, huggable, slightly mental companion & partner in crime

I’m trying to decide if SWM stands for single white male, sexy white male, senior white male or serious white male.  Don’t I look serious here?

This sounds a little strange, but here goes.  I was heading up the street earlier, and wanted to wear my lighter green henley.  But I’m color blind and couldn’t tell the difference between this shirt and the dusty purple and dark gray henleys I also own, so I took this selfie.

I see colors in photos better than in person.  Been that way my entire life.

Anyway, as long as I was posing for the camera… I saw a story on the news this weekend that said online dating was making a comeback, particularly among seniors.  Maybe it’s time I threw my shirt in the ring.  This is my practice selfie.

“Doug, you mean your hat.  You throw your hat in the ring.”   I don’t own any hats!

For the record I like to think I’m chubby in a sexy way and neurotic in a charming way.  I’m an expert at flipping hamburgers, roasting broccoli and making tuna fish salad.  I don’t smoke or drink or use drugs (okay, I did have one wine slushi at the winery) and I may not be religious but I don’t swear either.  Well, I don’t use the Lord’s name in vain.

I keep a pretty clean house.  I even special-order Spic n’ Span powder in the box!  (If you don’t remember Spic n’ Span in a box, you’re probably too young for this fella.)  That stuff is da bomb!  I know, no one says da bomb anymore.

Anyway, take all that—throw in a few stocks & bonds and in four months I begin collecting social security.  What’s not to love?

  1. I think you look rather dashing in your green shirt. And I didn't know that it might be easy to tell colors in a picture than in person. If I were single, I'd be interested. Maybe a little.

  2. Hi Doug. What a great idea! Your pic is great. And your description of who you are is perfect! I think you should go for it. At the very least, you'll have some interesting experiences, good blog material, and who knows, perhaps meet someone very special 🤞.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

    1. Thanks Miss Merry! But smiling has gotten me nowhere, I'm going for the "smoldering look" ;^)

  4. You have bedroom eyes. But you make me laugh and women find that sexy in a man. Good luck.

  6. I love that color shirt! SWM does mean Single White Male. :) I'm sure you realize that if you go on the dating market, you'll have SO MANY STORIES for the blog. Sometimes funny ones, or even crazy ones. And you could meet someone fun to go out with or just hang out together. You never know. The beauty of it is that if you don't like it or don't want to continue with it, you have complete control and can stop.

    1. Haha! Margaret I know swm stands for single white male, I was just putting my own spin on it :^) Well, you're the second person who's suggested I join a dating service for blog content, but I'd feel guilty doing that! My friend & former classmate Diana sometimes accuses me of being her friend just for blog material, haha :^) We'll see!

    1. Awesome, thanks Beth! Apache comes from having some Native American heritage on my dad's side, it's not apache but I've always been drawn to that particular tribe--even if they don't live in teepees :^)

  11. Dug, I missed this post yesterday. But my first thought seeing that picture was
'Wow, his face looks fine... no swelling! which means no long covid flare-up! How wonderful!'
So 'smoldering' nor anything else came to mind. As for the online thing, that's a personal choice. It apparently works for many. Not sure I could do it... but hey, you never know. (IMO most women are just looking for 'kind'... and you certainly are that).
And I DO remember Spic n Span!

    1. Hi Rian--what a nice surprise, I wasn't expecting to hear from you. I hope you & your poor eye are hanging in there. I think about you often. You're very kind about my face but haha--it is really puffy! But not a lot of pain, just a mild burning. Thank you for thinking of me as kind, that means more to me than anything. And finally, someone else remembers Spic n' Span! :^)

  12. 64 and no wrinkles? What's up with that?
That's an interesting way to determine the colour of your clothing - I do wonder what the camera does to allow you to "see" the colour?
I recall the brand name Spic & Span but not the formulation. Of course I had to do a search. Apparently it is sold at Walmart Canada for about $40 for a 27 oz. box of powder. There are also liquid options and apparently it is meant for commercial use. I wonder what is in it, that they no longer offer it for residential use?

    1. Maebeme I think my phone's camera has some kind of enhancer to soften faces. I don't have any wrinkles but the circles under my eyes are a lot darker, I swear! I don't understand the color correctness either, but I'm always surprised when I see a photo and the colors are not what I remember or just saw. That is interesting and a little scary about the spic and span. I was paying $8.99 USD for a 27 oz box and getting it from my local hardware store. My last pickup, they just got in three boxes and I bought all three. But I was told a couple weeks ago they can no longer carry it. So I am down to two and a half boxes I may sadly have to give my favorite powder up! 😢

  14. Not a Serious White Male. You look as if you’re trying to stop yourself from laughing. At least, that’s the way it appears to me.

I own several hats. If you live in Australia, you’d be crazy to go outside in summer without a hat, even down here in the south of the country.

For the record I’m chubby in a not very pleasant way (from my point of view), a tiny bit OCD, but I don’t think anyone notices.
I’m good at cooking fish in various ways, pasta and a few other things.
I don’t smoke, don’t use drugs except for wine which I partake in to a considerable degree.
I’m not religious, indeed I’m a life-long atheist, only swear when I’m alone and no one can hear.
I do use the Lord’s name in vain. After all, what can a non-existent being do to me?

I have never said “da bomb” in my life (until just now).

I have a few shares in ethical companies (there’s a group that organises that) and I turn 80 in a month’s time.

All in all, not a great catch, not even a mildly good one.

    1. Thank you for sharing Peter, you may have been a bit more honest here than me! Though I do think you're being a little hard on yourself, for someone who doesn't consider himself a good catch I find your company enjoyable always. I'm very glad I know you. 🙂

    1. Thanks Debby, I wasn't going to use this one. I just took it to see the color of my shirt, I didn't think it was half bad for a selfie and wondered about the future of online dating. If I go that route I will take another picture I assure you! ☺️

  16. Go for it Doug! I met my husband on e harmony. Idk if they are still in business. Just know that you will have to kiss some frogs before you meet your princess. Seriously though, just follow the general safety rules. Don’t want you ending up in the poor house! 😊. Joyce
