I can tell you how many times I've watched these, and I haven't gotten tired of them yet. Do you have videos on YT you've enjoyed again & again?
Not to worry, all of these are short--maybe not as short as Nancy Sinatra's miniskirt in the third one, but they're short enough!
1. Steve Lawrence & Edyie Gorme, The Ed Sullivan Show - September 17, 1967
When I was growing up in the 1960s-70s, I thought Steve Lawrence & Edyie Gorme were the hammiest pair on television. But I began "rediscovering" Eydie's career on YouTube several years ago and fell in love with her earlier stuff. Anyway, this is the couple at their finest.
Number of times seen: 16
2. Joan McCracken in the opening number of 1947's "Good News"
Love the movie, love June Allyson--but whenever Joan McCracken (below) appeared on camera, she stole the show. Sadly, Joan died at the tender age of 43 (from a heart attack) on November 1, 1961. One day after I was born.
Number of times seen: 19
3. Nancy Sinatra, Goldie Hawn & Ruth Buzzi - Laugh-In Salutes the End of the Sixties
Here's what I love in no particular order: 1969, Laugh-In, Nancy Sinatra, Goldie Hawn, Ruth Buzzi's surprisingly sexy legs.
Number of times seen: 17
4. The Kitten Lady meets Chickpea
I have a big confession--I love cat & kitten videos, and I've been following this young tattooed woman aka "The Kitten Lady" for at least 5 years now. She's nationally known and hugely respected, and takes in broken or orphaned kittens. (She's also rescued puppies and the occasional goat.)
In this video (which I've watched time & again for 5 years) she rescues Chickpea, a kitten that proves even too cute for her. I'm happy to report Chickpea lived happily ever after.
Number of times seen: Unknown, probably around 15
5. The DeLorean Time Machine in Back to the Future
Loved the movie, loved that pimped out ride. And that's all this is, the car hitting 88 mph. One awesome minute of it.
Number of times seen: 21

Hi Dug! Hadn't seen any of these... but enjoyed them... especially the kitty one (of course). We raised so many baby kittens over the years bottle feeding and getting them friendly, then either keeping them or bringing them to the Adoption room at the Animal Shelter. This one looked so much like our Jack (full name: Jumpin Jack Lickeddy Spit - yes, Spit... he was a drooler).
ReplyDeleteThank you Rian! Of course you're my Favorite Kitten Lady (loved Spit's name haha), but this young woman on YouTube really is wonderful. She gives lectures around the world and shelters across the country even consult with her. Plus she makes the best videos :^)
DeleteThe kitty one melted my heart. Such a cutie! I'm trying to think of videos that I watch over and over again; there's a French-Canadian Xmas commercial with a boy and his dad (to the tune of "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone) that always gives me the feels.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret--you know, I think so much of you I'd love to see you do something like this. These ones are half silly, but I bet you'd share some quality ones. :^)
DeleteI watch some TV programs more than once, but there are few YouTube items that I’ll revisit.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never watched the ones you mentioned and I’m not likely to.
Having said that, I probably watched the “Laugh In” bit when it was first broadcast.
And, of course, I’ve watched “Back to the Future” (more than once) but not that specific clip as a standalone.
The others – nuhhh
I probably shouldn't have shared them here, oh well... 🙂
DeleteWouldn't you know , I was catching up on blogs at the church office this morning and couldn't play any of your videos! Thank goodness I remembered and came back tonight. I am just the opposite of Peter, the first three were my favorites. Love Steve and Edyie, she was a performer! I had never heard of Joan McCracken. She resembles a fashion doll that belonged to my mother. I love the background dancers. I imagine them all going to Hollywood to be "discovered". How excited they were to get this job, to learn the dances and the songs, to attend the practices and fittings. Sending a telegram or letter home to let the parents and friends know about their successful audition. Describing the outfit so that everyone back home could have eyes on them for the whole performance. And I wonder what happened career-wise for everybody. And then I googled "when was polyester fabric invented" because I loved how her dress remained perfect throughout. (1920-1930, but marketed in the US in 1951).
ReplyDeleteI am sure I saw the LaughIn episode, I never missed one. I remember those short short skirts and was admiring the posture of the ladies so that the skirts did not hike up one more millimeter in the back, lol. And the strategically placed pocket on the blouses were taped, I am sure. Goldie really shines in all her performances. She isn't the best dancer (but was it an act? I think she trained as a dancer) and she wasn't the best singer, but she always lit up the stage and was the one to watch.
Miss Merry, you are very sweet. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading your thoughts here, big thank you :^) (Loved how you imagined all those background "students" hoping to be discovered, I watch these clips and wonder the same thing, what brought them to this picture.) :^)
DeleteHi Doug, I always enjoy when you share some of your favourite YouTube videos. I watched the kitten one right away, gosh, so adorable! Steve and Edie were fabulous singers, I loved when they appeared on The Carol Burnett Show. I had no idea who Joan McCracken was. I can vaguely remember watching Laugh-In with my brother and sister, I loved Joanne Worley. Really enjoyed the Back to the future DeLoren. Thanks for sharing!❤️
ReplyDeleteRobin, this was so nice of you, I wish I could give you a hug--thank you! Yes about Carol Burnett, they had so much fun on there! As for Laugh-In, well, I remember being allowed to stay up on Monday nights to watch it, but I'm a couple years older than you so I get that... hey I met Joanne Worley in person once, I will have to share that sometime! Thanks again Robin <3 (that's a heart I'm on my laptop) :^)
DeleteFun fact, if you know who the band form the 70's STYX is, Hannah Shaw (aka Kitten Lady) is Tommy Shaw's (one of the lead singers) daughter. She is also on Facebook and Instagram. I am a big fan of STYX, and have seen them in concert over 100 times. And so I have met Hannah, and she is so very down to earth and sweet. Another fun fact, Hannah Shaw and her husband Andrew, 'inherited' Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) cat when he passed away. The cat is semi feral, and lives protected in a catio at their house.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog Doug, have read for years, I just rarely comment.
Lin
Lin I just picked my chin up from the floor! Yes I remember Styx (and that's incredible you've seen them over 100 times) and I did NOT know that about the Kitten Lady! I love her--I seriously love her. This is just amazing, thanks so much for sharing (my god I love the Paul Reubens trivia here too, love and miss him). Thank you for your very kind words Lin, and for what you shared here. I hope I hear from you again. :^)
DeleteIt's been awhile since you showed us some videos these were good. Joan Mccracken has a better dance in Good news I think its called Indian War Dance and shows off her legs. You sound like a leg man Doug :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill and hey--are you Billy O'N from Mellon? I would love to catch up. Nice to hear from a fellow Joan McCracken fan, and I believe you're talking about "Pass That Peace Pipe". That would've been a better song to share, it's out there too :^) Hope you are well.
DeleteWhat fun! Thank you for these, many times over.
ReplyDeleteThanks DJan. 🙂
DeleteAll of these are new to me. The Kitten Lady has a new fan.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of a video I've watched over and over again. Unless you count the "Home Alone" movies. My grandson was obsessed with them. :)
Thank you Maebeme, and that was funny about the 'Home Alone; movies. I only saw the first one one time, and that was 30 years ago. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. :^)
