Truth be told, I'm not really up for doing any writing right now. But I wanted to put something new on here, just to say hello. I hope everyone is doing well.
1. This morning's breakfast (and yes, I'm quite fond of black pepper). I enjoy guacamole with everything.
2. This is my sister Shawn & her husband Jim at a friend's wedding 2 weeks ago. Speaking of weddings, these two recently celebrated their 26th anniversary on May 20. They're the parents of my 21 year old niece Sophia, who recently returned from a trip to Italy.
3. I signed up for a Netflix account this morning. (I love Sally Field as much as I do my family.) Do you know I was one of Netflix' first members in the 1990s? They had an obscure website advertising "We have over 500 dvds!" Half of them were foreign and that's why I joined.
Anyway, I quit a long time ago but I'm anxious to check out what they have now.
4. I'm so out of touch with things, I just noticed I never updated my wall calendar (on the right) from April and May is almost over. Meanwhile, my dining room wall is pleading with me to hang some artwork on there. I think I found something I like, more on that soon.
(My friend Patty saw the photo above and said I needed a third chair. Here it is Patty, around the corner!)

Hi Doug,
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd check in to see how you're doing. Glad that you're still active even though you're suffering. So you were an early Netflix subscriber? Wow! I had a chance to check out their Toronto office this past weekend when we had a Doors Open event but I passed on it because I don't subscribe to the channel, and besides, the weather was terrible - cold, windy and rainy.
Your sister and her husband are an attractive couple. No wonder Sophia's so good looking; it's in the genes.
I'm looking forward to more updates. Stay safe, my friend.
Steve
Thank you Steve, it's always nice to hear from you. That's cool you live so close to one of their offices. Well, it's been 6-7 years since I was a member, but it feels more like 25. Their platform is so different but really nice! And thank you for the kind words about my sister and her family. You know what I'm going to say... you're a good guy. 🙂👍
DeleteIf you haven’t watched Remarkably Bright Creatures yet, do it! I just loved it.
ReplyDeleteMarty, thank you so much. I just bumped it to the top of my list. 🙂👍
DeleteLike Marty, I enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures; Sally Field is marvelous in it. Where is the guac in that photo? I see lots of pepper--which I also like, by the way. I was guilty of using boxed Hamburger Helper when my kids were young and busy with activities. I would fry up a bunch of hamburger and portion it in 1/2- or 1/3-pound bags. Then I would freeze it and just take it out when I wanted to make HH--or spaghetti or tacos. Easy peasy!
ReplyDeleteMargaret you are too sweet and too funny. You are also the one who inspired me to sign up for Netflix! The guac is that green glob by the chopped tomatoes in the first pic--and trust me, growing up in my house, we ate plenty of Hamburger Helper--and loved it. :^)
DeleteOh, that makes sense! I didn't recognize it as guac because I would have had 10 times more of it on my plate. LOL
Delete😆👍👍
DeleteSorry to hear you are still down with all this. I hope things change for the better soon. Breakfast and Dinner both look delicious! And your sister is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI don't have Netflix. I keep thinking about it but haven't pulled the trigger.
Thank you so much Miss Merry... I am so ready to put this LC stuff behind me. I'm glad you liked my bachelor cooking, we both know you can cook circles around me though. And I have to say, signing up for Netflix has been a VERY pleasant surprise. I canceled my HBO Max subscription.
DeleteI found myself really enjoying a lot of the Korean series on Netflix. Possibly because I'd already seen everything in English that appealed to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ken, this is precisely what I was wanting to hear. 🙂
DeleteYou are so good at making sure you cook for yourself - some days my supper is a tube of Pringles !
ReplyDeleteSiobhan
Thank you Siobhan, but I am adding a tube of Pringles to this weekend's shopping list. 🙂
DeleteWhich flavour ?
DeleteCan I add another recommendation to watch ? Rooster and the Boundary/ great casts for both
S
Ha, Siobhan I will have to see what's available at my little store--probably not a lot of variety. And thank you for the recommendations. :^)
DeleteI've long been a Netflix customer. Always seemed more consistent than HBO or MAX. In fact, back in the day I remember having to return, by mail, my final CD to Netflix as they had gone completely internet.
ReplyDeleteI do love most anything made with "cream of" soups, in fact, would you perhaps share with us your bachelor recipe?
Thanks Camille and I do miss the days of getting those red envelopes in the mail. As for my bachelor recipe, sure--it's 1 lb ground beef and a chopped onion, cooked and drained of fat. Stir in 1 can cream of celery soup, 1/3 cup ketchup, 2 tbls Worchester sauce, 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Boil 1 cup macaroni, fold into the meat sauce. 🙂
DeleteDoug, glad to see you are making some lovely meals. Wonderful photo of Shawn and Jim, Sophia looks so much like Shawn. Take care!❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin, much appreciated my dear friend. ❤️
DeleteGood to see that you are taking good care of yourself. Like you, I prefer homemade versions of hamburger helper than the boxed stuff. (I'd use another s word but that would be impolite).
ReplyDeleteWe have Netflix here but I must admit I've never used it - my grandson does. I'm sure you'll be watching different programs. Enjoy!
Thank you Maebeme and I know you don't watch a lot of anything, especially with your busy schedule. I'd much rather be out there doing things, but until I can get these LC symptoms down... glad for my tv and online friends.
DeleteDug, I loved that movie "Remarkably Bright Creatures"! And I do like Sally Field!
ReplyDeleteWe have Netflix and do watch it a lot... along with Acorn. And I find a lot of older stuff on freeTubi. You will probably laugh but I tend to like disaster films - tornados, asteroids, etc. (probably because in the end, the main people always survive - a little Hallmarky, maybe?)
Your meals always look good... and I like seeing little shots of your rooms. And yes, your wall needs something, something that will make you smile when you look at it.
Your sister and her hubby look happy. Great pic! Hope you are feeling a little better this week? Sending virtual hugs! : )
Thanks very much Rian, I always enjoy and appreciate your comments. I'm going to watch that wonderful Sally Field movie this weekend for sure. And that's awesome you have Acorn tv, I thought about getting that. Yesterday my LC symptoms weren't bad, prompting me to post this blog. Today is a rough day and had to cancel hair appt and nd trip to store. I sure hope you're having many good days. ❤️
DeleteWe saw Remarkably Bright Creatures last night. I thought it was a sweet movie. If you haven't seen Thursday Murder Club, we enjoyed that as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debby, looking forward to checking both out. :^)
DeleteI'm glad you're still able to cook yourself some good meals to keep your strength up. Very nice pic of your sis & bil. I'm still out here pushing positivity and healing thoughts your way. Take care!
DeleteThanks so much Bobi, I really appreciate this message. Wanted to go outside today and can't shake this nonsense from my head. Very nice what you said about my sister and bil, thank you.
DeleteEasy to see where your niece gets her good looks from! Your dinner looks good - I've never actually had hamburger helper so wouldn't have a basis for comparison but suspect I would want to sneak a bit of garlic into your concoction.
ReplyDeleteCeci
Thank you Ceci, and you know what I think garlic would make a great addition. I wish I had thought of that.
DeleteDoug, you are the most courageous person I know. The LC is the monster monkey on your back yet you don't rail at the world and use your situation to lash out and cast blame. And, like now, down and dealing, you take the effort to reach out to others to show you are here for us, we who care so much about you. thank you, Doug. You make me want to be a better person too. ((Hugs)) Kris in Ohio PS I love black pepper too!
ReplyDeleteKris this was so nice of you, thanks so much. To be very honest it's been a rough week and have been feeling pretty down. Your kind words help so much. 🙂❤️
DeleteGlad to see that even though you don't feel well you are still eating well. That is a big problem with me, if I don't feel good, I don't eat, which really isn't helpful to the cause.
ReplyDeleteThanks dkzody. I enjoyed reading about you and Terry's trip this morning as well. 🙂
DeleteI agree – lots and lots of freshly ground black pepper on eggs, usually poached but occasionally scrambled.
ReplyDeleteI like to chop a tomato and put it on toast and the egg on top. That way I can eat everything at once.
I prefer guacamole as a stand-alone for lunch. Well, not quite stand-alone, corn chips and a crispy rosé with it. After the A.M. and I get to it there’s none left for later.
I’m not a big mac and cheese fan regardless of the recipe.
Thanks for sharing Peter, I think you've inspired me to poach my eggs the next time I have them. And for the record, I've never been a big mac n' cheese person either. :^)
DeleteGigi Hawaii. Hi, Doug. The food looks good. You eat well. Glad you subscribe to Netflix. Enjoy Doctor John. David also watched it and liked it. Deep movie.
ReplyDeleteThank you Gigi Hawaii, and I appreciate you sharing David's opinion on it. Me & him have always liked the same things. :^)
DeleteI love black pepper too! It drives Gregg crazy so I have to remember to go easy on him. 😀 I also enjoy avocado and fresh tomatoes with bread, and as soon as my tomatoes start to ripen we're looking forward to having them with eggs. A fresh garden tomato is a wonderful addition to breakfast!
ReplyDeleteThere should be plenty of good stuff to see on Netflix if you haven't had it for years. I haven't seen Remarkably Bright Creatures because I boycotted the book--I think it might be a slight rip off of one of my favorite novels, Hollow Kingdom.
Take care!
Thank you Jennifer! Too funny about the pepper, but I do envy you those garden tomatoes--I grew up on a farm where we literally had bushels every summer. Now I pay a small fortune for them in the market and they're not as good. As for the movie, it was quirky & sweet, I liked it because of Sally Field more than anything. I can't believe she's almost 80 years old.
