It’s not just me… it’s not just the Democrats in this country. It’s the people in Canada and the UK, Germany, Japan, France, Australia, the world over. They are all breathing a collective sigh of relief that somehow a fallen United States has managed to right ourselves and set our sights once again on the path of truth, justice & yep, the American way.
I know that sounds corny, but when you consider the fact that our precarious government was set to topple just a couple weeks ago… the mind bloggles.
Last night I saw the above photo of President Biden on BBC News, and I’m not sure what came over me but I had to wipe my eyes. They sure don’t come any more truthful or decent than him. He’s a kind, unselfish man who came out of retirement for one reason, to help save our democracy. Man, I love Joe.
My friend Danielle volunteered for Barack Obama’s campaign in 2012, and got to meet Jill Biden. (Or rather, Dr. Biden… ahem!) I was envious then, and I think I’m feeling a little bit of that jealousy again now.
I have big hopes for Kamala too. As much as I was stirred by Lady Gaga’s powerful rendition of our National Anthem, watching Kamala Harris beam on Inauguration Day gave me real goosebumps. What a terrific team she & Joe Biden are.
I know I’m gushing a little too much here, but I can’t help it. These past 4 years haven’t been good ones for tens of millions, myself included. Besides dealing with kidney disease and chronic jaw dysfunction, having to worry daily that Donald Trump and his GOP cohorts were doing everything in their power to strip me and millions of other Americans of our healthcare thru the destruction of the Affordable Care Act… I think the stress was literally killing me.
(And of course the child separation policy at the border, the Muslim & transgender bans, those awful tax cuts for the very wealthy, a thousand other things—and that dumb wall.)
But I didn’t get on here to talk about what was. I just want to bask in this week’s ‘changing of the guard’ for a couple more days, keep my fingers crossed that this recent TMJD flare-up is just that (a flare-up) and then cross my fingers again and hope that more of us--Republicans, Conservatives, Trumpers, Qanon, Evangelicals, Fox Newshounds, Blue Meanies (and you too, Libertarians) can move on while Joe & Kamala gets done what needs done.
Whew! Thanks, I just needed to get that out of my system.
I didn't get around to reading your last post, so I went back and read it and all the comments. I have pretty good teeth myself, but I've developed some TMJ soreness and don't look forward to my next dentist appointment. I've missed two cleanings but nothing (knock wood) seems to hurt right now. And I too am so happy with the Inauguration and cried several times! Now if I can just find a way to get the vaccine, life will be much better. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks DJan, and darn it I don't like reading you have TMJ issues yourself. I very much hope that doesn't worsen, I know just how you feel about not wanting to take risks for the time being. (I thought you would be in one of the top groups to get the vaccine? Please let us know what that happens.) Well, it's very nice to know someone else had tears of joy on Wednesday besides me! Thank you for sharing that! :)
DeleteI missed two cleanings too. Now I'm getting worried.
DeleteI wouldn't worry, wait till you're vaccinated--better safe than sorry...
DeleteI have to admit, I like most of Biden's executive orders, especially those dealing with the environment and Covid. I still shudder a bit at any president having that much power to wield but in this case, he is wielding mostly in my favor. Probably the only one I wish he had left off for the time being anyway was the stopping of the border wall building. I am of the belief that any meaningful immigration legislation (and we do need major reforms in this area) isn't going to happen if we don't fix the problem of people illegally entering our country. I see it as trying to fix a leaking dam by throwing more water in the lake above. But overall, I am pleased, especially when it comes to mandating masks and protecting ANWR.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Ed, and I respect your feelings about that wall--I don't know enough about the illegal immigration problem, but I should take the time to. Well said. :)
DeleteGreat post. I'm so proud of Joe and Kamala. Joe defines the word presidential! We haven't seen any of that for the last four years. I have great hope for our country. I just read an article that McConnell spoke off the record that he supports impeachment so that Trump cannot run for office again. The republicans are divided, so we shall see. Some of them think they need Trump's support to win in midterm elections. Here's hoping for some backbone among all the senators to do the right thing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Carole! It sure felt good reading this! You know, to be completely honest there's a part of me that almost wishes we could move on past the Senate trial for Trump, I'm just anxious to put all that behind us. BUT--like you said, we can't run the risk of Trump running again if we can help it! So I'm with you, I hope enough of them are too.
DeleteOK, you know I don't tear up much. However, I watched the inauguration and show that evening and smiled through the entire thing. Such a huge, huge relief!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha--Kay you're right! I know you're not a crier, but I also knew you were probably smiling! You're right, a giant relief :^)
DeleteThis Canadian is certainly happy that you've inaugurated an intelligent, kind, ethical and competent president! And what a clever ceremony work-around to accommodate both security and virus concerns! Those waving flags where crowds would have been in easier times was beautifully arranged.
ReplyDeleteThanks Florence, and you're certainly right about those flags, I thought so too!
DeleteI've felt like a weight has been lifted, and am happy with the direction he's taking us. Now if the right wing media and crazies would quit LYING about the election and about him. I've had several conservative friends (including one on my blog) claim that Biden has dementia. Did they listen to his speech? No one with dementia could give a speech like that. Hell, I couldn't do it in a million years. I've been worried for my older daughter and her family, who may be depending on the Affordable Care Act to cover their baby and themselves if neither one can get a job. It's scary, but less so with competent leaders at the helm.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I had someone come on here a couple months ago and say the same thing about Joe Biden & dementia, what a bunch of malarkey! Anyway I'd STILL take that over that wannabe-dictator Trump. They can spout all the crap they want for all I care. As for your daughter & baby, I sure hope the ACA thing works out, if need be. I know it's saved my own skin.
DeleteThat office furniture is gorgeous! I have a "thing" about furniture which would surprise anyone looking around at the mix of odd, cheap pieces I have around here.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, back on track, I'm so happy to see Joe Biden as President :) I saw bits of the inauguration on the news here, loved the fireworks display.
Thanks River--and yes that fireworks show was spectacular! I saw how they did it the morning after, I'm shocked they pulled it off.
DeleteDug, I love that picture at the top also. I feel like I can breathe again...after holding my breath for the last 4 years. Loved Biden's speech, but worried about him the whole time he was giving it. I just wanted him inaugurated and then off the stage to somewhere safe (silly, I guess). All went well and the whole ceremony was beautiful. I realize that he probably won't be able to do all that he wants to do, but am so glad that someone with integrity and respect is in office. I feel good about Kamala too...
ReplyDeleteRian, thanks so much for saying what you did--I knew JUST how you felt when Biden was giving his speech, I kept imagining some sniper-for-hire with a rifle and telescope. What a shame that Joe & Jill weren't able to have the big luncheon or gala evening that every other President had (ESP Trump) Inauguration Night but I honestly believe it didn't mean all that much to Joe. Anyway Rian, thanks for your comment here and I'm glad you can breathe better now too! :)
DeleteI had no idea that disgust weighed so much. Wow, do I feel lighter now, shoulders are straight and chin held high. Sure is wonderful to once more feel proud of our leader.
ReplyDeleteAlso now maybe I won't grind my teeth so much, can't be good for them and especially a bum jaw like you have. I know I had been working mine over, my dentist commented.
Aw Patti I'm sorry to hear about your own teeth grinding and yes, YES--I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I kept catching myself doing it. But what else you said here, so on target. As much as I'm glad to see Joe Biden in office now, I think what we needed more than anything was to see Trump OUT. I'd say this was more good vs evil than Dem vs GOP! Anyway, thanks for your words my dear friend!
DeleteYes, I agree with you. A sigh of relief.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi! :^)
DeleteA Collective Sigh of Relief! I not only feel Hopeful again, but a whole lot less angry, I didn't like feeling so angry and such resentment as quelled up in me during that vile Administration's reign of corruption, corrosive division, unapologetic racism, Cult Following... it was all just too much. People flee Countries like that and come to America to escape it... where would Americans or anyone else have gone should that evil have prevailed?
ReplyDeleteBohemian, you make a very good point--I thought about that too (where would Americans go). Well, in "Handmaiden's Tale" when the US government was taken over by a weird religious cult, Canada welcomed American citizens who could escape... I thought about that a lot these past couple months.
DeleteIf you really want to get trump off your chest have a listen to Robert DeNiro slams D. Trump on youtube. I dont get why that video doesnt get more views. De Niro spoke the truth and told everyone to cop on to themselves and yet they still voted him in but not second time.
ReplyDeleteSpacer I love hearing DeNiro talk Trump, I'll have to look that up--thanks! Yeah, we came awfully close to having a Trump Family Dictatorship...
DeleteJust re-joining the WHO and Paris Treaty was good, five more years of START+ is a plus...
ReplyDeleteHey Iikka--good to hear from you (and glad to read this) :)
DeleteThis is so weird. Your Batman post disappeared.
ReplyDeleteKay I took it down a couple hours after I posted it, it felt silly after some bad news I got... I'm going to explain in a new post...
