Sometimes, not often enough… we reflect upon the good things

While waiting to recover fully from this long-covid affliction and return to a more normal life, I thought I’d share this video I made almost 16 years ago for my sisters and nieces.

My 19 year old niece Sophia, and my 20 year old Kodak EasyShare camera

I made this in November 2008, as a wistful look back at the nice summer we had, and time spent together.  These are my sisters Shawn & Donda-Lin, and nieces Sophia & Drew.

Shawn’s daughter Sophia was close to 4 here, now she’s 19 and completing her first year at college.  Donda’s daughter Drew was 15, now she’s almost 31.  Where does the time go??

Anyway—I made this at the time using my trusty Kodak Digital camera (seen here) to share on my blog in the fall of ‘08, but changed my mind at the last minute.  I think I worried it might look a little too corny or something.

I guess that’s one nice thing about growing older… you don’t worry about those types of things so much.

  2. That as really charming - and the perfect soundtrack - what a voice she had. I imagine you are very proud of your sisters and nieces - there is nothing like family

I am hoping that you are feeling better today - I am so sorry that you have felt so unwell for so long .

    1. Thanks Siobhan... well, my sister Donda and her family moved pretty far south shortly after this video was made, haven't seen them in many years but they're missed everyday. Not really feeling any better to be honest but I remain hopeful.

  3. What a wonderful, wonderful memory of 'your' girls. It is amazing how they grow up. My youngest child is 34. My oldest...well...never mind... These things are a lovely token of your love through the year. I hope all the parties involved have a copy of their own.

  9. Wow that was lovely! I like looking at pictures. Thank you for sharing your family with us. Karen carpenter song was nice. I don’t know that one by her. I play a little piano and now I want to go find that song and try and play it.

    1. Thanks Beth! As for that Karen Carpenter song, I wasn't familiar with it either until I made this video. That would be nice to play on the piano.

  10. I love this! To me, 2008 seems like just a couple of years ago. Until I look at photos like these--especially with children who are now adults. Or until I look and admit how much younger I looked!!! Our own son was 24 then and just out of grad school. Now he's almost 40 and beginning to show gray hair. How quickly the precious years fly by. There's a lesson here; we MUST decide to treasure each hour of each day.

    1. Hi Don, thanks so much! So agree about 2008 feeling so recent, and wow about your son now. Boy you're right about how time flies, especially the older we get. Thank you again.

  11. Loved this post too, Dug. However, my comments don't show up anymore on your posts and yours don't show up on mine. I can look up 'Apache Dug' on 'all blogs' and find you... don't know why?? Oh well, take care my friend.

    2. I don't either... and no, your comment on my eclipse post didn't show. I even checked my spam too. Was worried that you weren't feeling well enough to post. Glad I found this one.
