Coffee & pills, it does a body good (well, mine at least)

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday.  Someone in my building saw my box of Keurig k-cups in the lobby this week and asked if I drank a lot of coffee.  5 cups a day, so yes I guess I do.

Why don't you just get a regular coffeemaker?  It would probably save you some money.

I don't have many luxuries in this life, but I love a fresh cup of coffee.  And I enjoy different brands of the brew throughout the day.

And for the record, I take the pills mentioned below with a full glass of water; I'm just reminded to take them when it's almost time for coffee!

What I'm downing:  Folgers Medium Roast & a golden D3 vitamin gel-cap
When I'm doing it:   8:00 - 10:00 AM (2 cups, typically)
What I'm thinking:  Lord, thank you for letting me be here another day.  Now, do I want an egg & toast for breakfast, or cereal or what?

What I'm downing:  Caribou Blend Medium Roast & a Magnesium Glycinate horse pill (these suckers are big!)
When I'm doing it:   1-2:00 PM
What I'm thinking:  Boy, this Caribou is roasty; I'll sip a little now and the rest after I get home from the store, I need more Coffeemate.

What I'm downing:  Tim Horton's Original Blend & Physicians Choice 60 Billion Probiotics capsule
When I'm doing it:   7:00 - 9:00 PM
What I'm thinking:  Nothing like a cup of Tim Hortons after dinner!  I should make Tim's my all-day coffee, it's my favorite.

What I'm downing:  McCafe Decaf Medium Roast & 10 mg Amlodipine for my BP
When I'm doing it:   11:00 PM  (I know, I know--it's late.  But this is decaf)
What I'm thinking:  Okay Doug, one episode of Star Trek and then off to bed!

I didn't drink quite so much before long covid, but I've found hot coffee throughout my day really soothes things.  Do you have any favorite brands?

  1. Morning Doug, I don’t think 5 cups of coffee a day is a lot. Spread over about 15 hours it isn’t that much. I have never been a coffee drinker. Tried it once as a teenager and didn’t care for it. My Mum in her prime would easily drink ten cups a day. I learned how to make her coffee at a very young age.😆 She lived to be 91 so obviously didn’t harm her. Enjoy your coffee!❤️

  2. Gigi Hawaii. Hi, Doug. I recently bought a Nespresso from Amazon. I prefer coffee latte over espresso, so I bought a box of Sweet Vanilla and a box of Hazelnut coffee for the Nespresso. Delicious! Just love the frothy cream on top. Take care.

  3. Hi Doug. I'm a tea drinker myself. I envy your ability to consume caffeine at 7:00 at night. 1:00 PM is my time limit, otherwise I have trouble sleeping at night. Caffeine is a wonderful drug! It gives a boost to help us get through the day. The cookies look yummy!

  4. Good evening Doug.

From what I have been through, and probably for most people, five cups of coffee a day is considered a lot. As far as I am concerned, Health experts usually recommend a maximum of about 400 mg of caffeine daily, which equals roughly four regular cups of coffee. Drinking five cups may push you over that limit and cause side effects such as anxiety, restlessness, heart palpitations, stomach discomfort, or sleep problems.

However, caffeine tolerance varies. Some people handle it well, especially if the coffee is weak or spread throughout the day. Still, drinking that much every day is not ideal long term, and reducing intake slightly is generally healthier.

  5. Sadly I had to give up coffee when I retired. I had been drinking many cups of coffee a day. Always Nabob drip coffee....It was my favourite. I could only drink it in the morning As I found I had difficulty falling and staying asleep. But I was having stomach issues, had to have a biopsy and though there wasn't anything serious the doc was adamant that I quit drinking coffee. Now I drink tea but no more than a couple of cups a day. If I want something got I drink got water...Now I know I'm old!
You certainly do enjoy a variety of coffee!
