Older men who live alone and don't exactly cook want Thanksgiving dinner too

Before...

Ready to eat; I was almost surprised how tasty everything was

This turned out better than expected, I really enjoyed that turkey & stuffing.  I was going to watch tv while eating, but there were big swirls of snow flurries outside my dining room window, so I enjoyed that instead.

Later on with my dessert (I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie)  I did enjoy an awesome movie--the 1993 tv movie A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion on DVD.   Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

  3. Doug——Happy Thanksgiving from our house to yours!   Your meal and dessert look terrific.  You do seem to whip up some good meals for yourself.   Watching falling snow is one of our favorite things, brings back fond memories of when we lived in the Midwest.   Now we get super excited when it decides to snow in Texas, even if it only lasts one day.
Ah, The Waltons…loved that show….what a wonderful way to spend your time watching them.  My wife says it’s like a “Calgon take me away” time.  Remember that commercial?
We enjoyed a Community Center Thanksgiving Turkey Meal with Pumpkin Pie.  We have to give you credit for us seeking out and going to our center after reading about your wonderful experience.  Thank You!
Thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving virtually with us…enjoy the rest of your evening…hopefully without any pain.

  4. Your meal looks wonderful and very tasty! It is snowing here too. Your tv viewing is so highbrow compared to mine. We came home from our daughters and I was watching family murder shows on a crime channel.

  5. Dug, your Thanksgiving meal looks really good. We ate out at a restaurant this year because of my eye surgeries (didn't feel up to doing it all here like we usually do). Daughter hosted it at her house in the hill country for the others. It was fine... too much food... but isn't that always the case. We had turkey, ham, stuffing, sweet potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, some type of pasta with sausage, salad, bread, and 2 kinds of dessert. Way more than we could eat... and of course took the leftovers home.
We've been watching an unusual mystery/crime show on Acorn. It's called "Recipe for Love and Murder". It's done in Africa and is very different... very food oriented. I really like it.

    1. Happy Thanksgiving Ceci! My dessert is a bit of an embarrassment, just pistachio pudding in a graham cracker crust with some Redi-Whip (real dairy cream) topping. It's light but tasty :^)

  9. Happy Thanksgiving! Your meal looks just like ours! The snow sounds beautiful. We had a little rain and cooler than usual temp here in FL, so I liked that. Joyce

    2. Thanks, I am doing well. It’s been a month since surgery and my head and ear are still full due to air introduced during surgery. Hearing is still muffled on that side. That makes my balance off so I’m still using a walker a lot of the time. Dr says it takes a couple of months to clear, so I am halfway. It has been rough at first, now frustrating that it is taking so long. I get kind of dizzy in the car so I have only been out about 3 times. But I will get there. Hope you are feeling better. Joyce

    3. It sounds rough but I very much admire your spirit Joyce. You are definitely getting there. I am still fighting this cranial pain and inflammation, but I get good days. What can you do, just hang on.

  10. Happy Thanksgiving Doug!
Your dinner looks very good and filling. Wow, snow? My daughter sent a photo and we still have green grass on November 27 at home in Saskatchewan.
Of course, there is no snow here in Yuma either. :)
I haven't thought of the Waltons for years, but it was one of my mom's favorite programs. Goodnight Jim Bob!

    1. Thank you Maebeme, and Happy Belated Canadian Thanksgiving :^) Well, we only got a little snow but it is VERY cold out there now, with wind chills in the teens. As for the Waltons, I got this box-set of their tv movies (5 in all) a year ago and have been waiting to crack it open :^)

  11. Your food posts are always so impressive! Everything looks delicious. It's just the two of us here and our dinner didn't look nearly that fancy. We cooked a Jennie-O boneless turkey tenderloin in the crockpot and accompanied it with mashed potatoes (homemade but from the freezer), jarred gravy and a bagged salad. My husband did make us our usual dessert: Glorified Gingerbread from his mom's recipe. It's a light gingerbread with a crumb topping like coffee cake.
I do have a couple of questions for you. Are deviled eggs a family tradition for you? I notice you always have them. Or is it regional? We only eat them here with picnic food. Also how do you make yours? I like them but the long process to making them deters me (I admit, I'm lazy!😀)
Sorry I missed this yesterday, but happy to hear you had a good day! Happy Black Friday--ha! Just another day to hunker down. I think we'll watch the original Miracle on 34th Street today. I didn't comment on your last post because I'm not much on movies; when we were dating, I slept through the entirety of 2001: A Space Odyssey including dreaming and snoring in the theater.😂😂

    1. Hey Bobi, Happy Thanksgiving! Listen--your meal sounded a lot tastier than mine. I wanted to buy one of those boneless turkeys but chickened out. I think your husband's dessert sounded better too. As for the devilled eggs, I honestly don't know if it's a regional thing, I just know we always had them growing up over Thanksgiving, Easter & Christmas. I made 4, just used a couple dollops of mayonaise, a couple teaspoons yellow mustard and smoked paprika on top. Super simple. And that was too funny, your 2001: Space Odyssey memory. That is not an easy movie to sit through. :^)

    2. Dug, we saw 2001:Space Odyssey in 1968 when it first came out... and we have a special memory about that movie too. Will try to remember to add it to my next post.

    3. Rian I can't wait--listen, I have a story about that movie too. I was going to share it here, but I think I'll do a blog about it :^)

  13. That's a lovely meal, Doug! I do like pumpkin pie although I prefer pecan. We also had Dutch apple, lemon bars and a pumpkin cheesecake which hadn't set. (oops) TOO MANY CHOICES! I loved the Waltons and we need that feel-good TV these days. There is too much misery in the world right now.

    1. Thanks very much Margaret, I've been thinking about you the last couple days and looking forward to hearing about your day. I knew mine was pitiful compared to your feast, your desserts sounded wonderful! And agreed about the need for feel-good tv :^)

  14. On Thanksgiving Day (which, of course, we don’t celebrate) I dined alone as you did.
I prepared salmon with pesto and lemon on basmati rice. Naturally, a good Oz chardonnay, one from the Yarra Valley, just outside Melbourne.
I’m not a big dessert fan, but I bought a New York cheesecake (not flown in from that city as it would have been a bit dry).

I did watch a film – “The Thursday Murder Club”, with a bunch of fine old English actors.

There was a distinct lack of snow outside my window.

    1. Peter, you are a man of refined tastes and I am just a hillbilly country bumpkin in comparison! Seriously, your meal sounded wonderful. I did read a little bit about that movie and wish I could see it, but it's only on Netflix (of which I don't subscribe). But I will keep looking for it :^)
